Super easy Apple Cider Spice Mix recipe made with brown sugar,  grated orange zest, ground cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg, cloves and tiny bit of cardamon. Perfect mix for gift giving.  Double or triple recipe as needed.

Ingredients

Spice Mix- Makes 1 cup or 48 teaspoons

1 cup light or dark brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground allspice

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon grated orange zest ( one large orange)

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon ground cardamon-optional but very good

Apple Cider

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, add brown sugar and grated orange zest. Toss with fork to blend. Cover bowl with plastic wrap or place mix in a ziplock bag and let it sit 12 hours to mellow the orange with the sugar.
  2. In a medium bowl, add zest and sugar mix, and all spices.  Whisk together to blend.
  3. Scoop mix into small 4 or 6 ounce jars as gifts.  Add label. And attach instructions below for gift giving.

To Make a Single 8 ounce Apple Cider Serving

Place one cup of  hot apple cider in a mug. Add 2 teaspoons Apple Cider Mix to hot apple cider. Stir until dissolved.  Add dollop of whipped cream and cinnamon stick and serve.

Recipe can be doubled or tripled for larger servings.

Notes

Cardamon is a ginger, citrus, peppery flavor which really adds great depth of flavor to your spice mix. However, it is optional, you could substitute  1/2 teaspoon ground ginger and 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper in addition to a 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon to replace cardamon.
