Create this beautiful Spring Flower Centerpiece just for mom. Make it Beautiful for Mom on her special day. Set a pretty table, enjoy the blooms and nature as you serve her a lovely lunch. The star of the table is the pink and white peonies, foxglove and honeysuckle centerpiece. She will love it and you will enjoy this centerpiece for her.
Because this outdoor luncheon is for four the table centerpiece is small and visible for all sides. The glass vase is 5″ x 3″ x 10″ trumpet shaped vase provides a lovely container for the vibrant spring flowers. As you know, peonies are fragile beauties and will sometimes have ants as friends, so if you discover you have ants, gently hold the peony upside down and shake the off. It is normal for ants to love these flowers as much as we do. The peonies are white and very pink, almost fuchsia, while the foxglove are soft lavender to purple, a great contrast with the pink and white peonies. Honeysuckle vine is a great filler and spiller for this centerpiece providing interesting movement and support for the delicate flowers.
Tip: When making a centerpiece with fresh flowers, selecting the right kind of vase is important. For delicate flowers whether it is wild flowers or peonies, the base should be somewhat short with medium opening so the flowers will be supported and the heads can rest on the sides of the vase. So when selecting flowers and the vase make sure they both will enjoy living together.
Here is a Tutorial on How to Make This Beautiful Centerpiece For Mom
In the photo we have set the table with tulip pink and green Noritaki dinner plates, pink chargers and blush stemware with a peony shaped white ruffled napkin fold. The centerpiece is the main attraction with the peonies, foxglove and honeysuckle vine. Peony leaves are inserted into the centerpiece to provide more greenery but the leaves are not in the water in the vase. It is important to remove all leafy foliage from the flower stems before placing the vase, this prevents bacteria. Be sure to change your water each day when making a fresh flower arrangement. They will reward you with longer lasting flowers.
How to Make this Centerpiece
Make a trip to your back yard or take a drive out in the country to find growing foxglove and peonies in the early part of May. Fortunately for me I had a the white and pink peonies in my back yard. I used 7 medium sized peonies and 3 foxglove stems from my neighbor Victoria for this small centerpiece. I also had the honeysuckle vine and extra greenery leafy stems.
Supplies you will need include:
5-7 medium white & pink peonies about 7″ tall, cut all floral stems at an angle with pruning shears
3 foxglove stems or more in case you need more
3-5 sprigs of honeysuckle vine
1- 5″x 3″ x 10″ glass trumpet shaped vase
pruners for cutting stems
Fresh cool water for the vase
Fill the vase with cool water, add the large flower stems first, peonies. They will fill the vase all around and all sides. Next add, the foxglove stems center, to the right and to the left of the centerpiece. Last add the honeysuckle vines filling in spaces and allowing the vine to drape over the other flowers. If you don’t have honeysuckle vine use ivy or other trailing plants like bridals veil. Just stay with in your color scheme.
