Setting the Table & Holiday Decor
Set your outdoor table with a pretty white, light blue or red and white buffalo check tablecloth. Keep the center piece simple, use a potted red plant that you can use replant in your flower beds. Begonias, geraniums, for red, wave white petunias as the spiller and punch of white, ageratum for blue flowers will make a great centerpiece. Set the potted plants in a pretty container, cover with moss if you need to coverup the edges of the pots.To see how to put this centerpiece together tap on photo for DIY.
Memorial Day Menu Ideas
Make is easy, grill up some hot dogs and create a Big Board with all the trimmings. Line a big board with decorative parchment paper, then arrange grilled hot dogs, buns, chopped onions, chili con carne, mustard, ketchup, relish and whatever your family loves. For sides consider baked beans in individual little crocks with lids, chill potato salad or other chilled salads, on the side serve chips and more of what your family loves.
You might like to serve Mini sliders as they are always a big hit for a cookout. Don’t forget to garnish that always makes the food more fun to eat. The sliders have a cherry tomato, dill pickle picked together with a small paper pennant.
Set up a french fry station; place a paper towel lined large bowl of warm salted baked french fries in center of table, add small bowls or platters with other ingredients to add to the fries.
In addition serve an easy fruit platter in festive style. Line a star shaped baking pan with blueberries, blackberries, cherries, raspberries, anything red, white and blue. Stars can be pears or white cheddar cheese cut into stars.
Here’s another idea for a great appetizer or fresh dessert. Alternate fresh strawberries with white yogurt covered pretzels for the stripes of a “flag”, place fresh blueberries and blackberries for the stars. Brush fruit with melted apricot jam to give the fruit a shiny glaze, sweeten and protect the fruit from drying out.
Dessert for this event can range from ice cream sandwiches using purchased cookies and ice cream to “fireworks” cupcakes.
Or if you really want to make a statement, bake this Flag Cake. It takes a couple of days to make but it is worth it if you hosting a formal event.
Enjoy your event!
