How to Make Southern Sweet Tea Sangria
To Make this wonderful refreshing summer drink you will need the following ingredients.
- Family size tea bags or 6-8 regular tea bags- decaf is what I used.
- 2 cups frozen or fresh fruit- if frozen it will keep your beverage cool. Your choice of fruit, all berries, oranges or peaches work best.
- 2-3 lemons & limes- cut into slices or small wedges
- Simple Syrup
- Garnish- lemon & lime slices, mint or Italian parsley sprigs.
Making the Sweet Tea for Sangria Tea
SWEET TEA: Making sweet tea begins with regular or decaf large family style tea bags. You can use any type or brand of tea. Make your own homemade or buy store-bought sweet tea. I use purified water from my water filtering system to make this tea.
In microwave, heat 2 cups water with 2 family size tea bags or (6 regular bags), for two minutes. Remove from microwave, allow to steep 5 minutes before removing bags. Pour tea over ice filled pitcher. Squeeze a half a lemon and lime over the ice and into tea.
Making Simple Syrup for Fruit Tea Sangria
Note: Use granulated sugar and not cane sugar or substitutes for this recipe to make clearer and full flavored tea.
In another microwave safe glass cup or bowl add 2 cups of water and 1 cup sugar. Microwave for 90 seconds or until sugar is dissolved. Pour simple syrup into your pitcher of tea, stir to blend.
Adding Fruit to Tea
Add frozen fruit or fresh berries, lemons, & limes. Garnish with lemon lime wedges, mint or parsley sprigs. Recipe can be doubled.
Tip: If you have ice cube trays, pour tea in the trays, add berries and freeze, use these ice fruited cubes to chill your sangria.
If you have any tea sangria left over, cover it and refrigerate for up to three days. You can make more tea and add to the leftover fruit. The longer it sits the better it will be. This is great with Lemon Cooler Cookies.
Fruit such as blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, mango, peaches, orange slices, lime and lemons, mint leaves all make delicious fruit sangria tea. This is a non alcohol version so everyone can enjoy!
Serving the All Fruit Sangria Tea
When the weather is super hot and you need a refresher this tea is the perfect beverage to go to. Even though it is sweet, the fruit helps balance the sweetness, especially the triple berries. Serving this beverage is easy and very pretty. I like to use a glass pitcher and tea glasses or club soda cups for this presentation.
