How to Make Chipotle Smokey Nut Mix

Honey and chipotle sauce with a little bit of sugar is heated over medium heat. While the sugar melts, whole almonds and pecan halves are added and coated with glaze. Super easy recipe and a great appetizer.

If you want to use chipotle ground pepper instead of the canned that is a good option too.

What is Chipotle?

“Chipotle peppers are dried, smoked red jalapeno peppers. The word “chipotle” is a compound of two Nahuatl (Aztec) words: chilli (hot pepper) and poctli (smoke). Dried chipotles, canned chipotles in adobo sauce, and chipotle powder all come from ripe jalapenos, which reach peak spiciness when they turn red.” According to Masterclass.com.

In a preheated 300 degree oven the nuts are toasted on a baking sheet for 20 minutes.  While nuts are warm, sprinkle with smoked sea salt. McCormick makes a great smoked sea salt in a grinder form.

What Kind of Nuts?

Almonds and pecans make great flavor combination, however you can substitute an assortment of nuts for your party mix.  If you want to use mixed nuts instead or in addition to almonds and pecans that would be great too.

Great appetizer for buffet tables and charcuteries.
